I have an Hp Pavilion dv9500 Notebook PC. It is no longer under warranty. All virus scan run clean in Safemode. Windows Vista will not start past the vista logo.

The problem started the other day, I tried to open internet explorer7 and the screen went wacky. It turned black and red with tiny dots and lines all over. I did a hard shut down, and it re-started and did the black and red screen again upon start up. It automatically tried to do system restore the next time it loaded and it said it was performed successfully; however, upon restart the same thing occurred again. I was able to load in safemode and performed a virus scan which came back clean. I shut down the computer and left it alone for 10-15 minutes, when I turned the computer back on, it worked normally for about a day.

This afternoon I was once again trying to open up i.e7 and the screen went haywire, this time with little blue dots, they then changed to yellow zizags vertically across the screen. It let me use the control alt delete screen before going black and restarting itself. Upon restart it would not go pass the vista flag without the screen going nuts. I performed a hard shut-down and it did system restore. The same thing happened once again, I did a hard shutdown and left the computer alone for 3 hours, thinking that it may be overheated. I am now able to open the computer up in safemode but that is all. A normal startup is not possible without the screen going crazy and the computer re-starting itself.

Any help would be much appreciated, I need this computer for class!
