hi, i have been handed over a laptop over from a family member as they have been suffering blue screens all month, 9 of them to be exact! i'm not really willing to mess around with it too much without help as bsod's aren't my strongest point, in fact they are probably my weakest ha!

would appreciate it if anyone could help resolve this and analyze the 9 attached minidumps. from what i've seen they are mostly UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP_M (1000007f) errors.

thanks in advance! :)

Hello VK.Jayy,

Pleas list your system specs.

Your dumps show problems with , ntkrnlpa.exe(7 of these), fileinfo.sys, ntoskrnl.exe They are all system files.
You'll need to have the XP CD ready.

Click start, run, type cmd
In the black box type sfc /scannow
sfc will ask you to put in your CD, no need to do anything, it will start on it's own.
sfc checks all of your system files, if any are found to be corrupt, the will be replaced by the ones on the CD.

I think, you have RAM problem. Number of errors indicate memory_corruption
Run memtest: http://www.techspot....topic62524.html

Here's a link to a brief description of the error message: http://aumha.org/a/stop.php#0x7f

0x0000007F: UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
One of three types of problems occurred in kernel-mode: (1) Hardware failures. (2) Software problems. (3) A bound trap (i.e., a condition that the kernel is not allowed to have or intercept). Hardware failures are the most common cause (many dozen KB articles exist for this error referencing specific hardware failures) and, of these, memory hardware failures are the most common.

As hardware failures are the most common (and memory failures are the most common of these), this tends to leave RAM as the #1 suspect. If it's not the RAM, then I'd suspect the hard drive after that. Try running a hard drive diagnostic that's available from the manufacturer of the hard drive.
