I've rebuilt my Dell M1530 and I'm debating whether to build a virtual development environment (virtual network with server and OS (XP, Vista, Fedora, and Ubuntu)).

What is the standard practice for most of you who develop windows and web applications?

Do you prefer a physical box? Or can you achieve the same results from a virtual box?

In web development, it really doesn't matter, or does it? But in Windows development, if you have to use the HAL, wouldn't there be a difference between a physical and a logical hardware environment?

Thanks
