Ok well, my gateway laptop crashed earlier today after uploading some statistic pictures to tinypic for reference. (Never pressed upload)

Now when I boot my laptop it is prolonged in telling me no operating system while making a consistent beeping noise. I also get the PXE-E61 Error.

I have tried to change the boot order to Hard Drive and to boot from CD to no avail. While the Vista Gateway disc is in, it takes a while to start. Once it has started it goes to loading files, then the normal loading screen. Then the blue crash screen comes up saying "disk.sys - address 8375A3FC Base at 8375900, Datestamp 00000000."

Note: It doesn't beep while the disc is loading files.

Please help. ^_^
Thanks in advance. :)

hello SuperStealth

PXE-E61 and your Gateway disc problem just guarantees that your hard drive is shot. You're going to need to get it (hard drive) replaced, either on your own or take it to a repair shop. sorry about your computer and the best of luck in getting it fixed :)

Thanks Belinrahs
I was afraid of that. ._.

Would a USB External hard drive serve the purpose, or would I need to buy an internal hard drive?
I've checked the internet for some local stores and they don't seem to carry internal hard drives and I can't order one. ._.

depends on how old your computer is. if it's fairly new and CAME with vista, probably would work but it's no guarantee. However I wouldn't recommend you rely on an external hard drive as your main OS drive as the external HD could just be unplugged and you have a computer with no OS that is useless. Much less secure way and much more incompatibility-prone way.

I would recommend buying an internal HD, preferably from a website like http://www.newegg.com/ or http://www.tigerdirect.com/

Look inside your computer. if the hard drive is connected by a wide, fat "ribbon" cable the hard drive is an "IDE" hard drive. if it is connected to the motherboard with a thin, smaller-plug, it is probably Serial ATA or "SATA". make sure you buy the right kind of hard drive -- ask back here if you have any questions :)

my gateway laptop

Since it is a laptop, you can not look at the "cables".
How old is the laptop?
Do you have any manuals on it?
What is the model? With that, we might be able to find a manual to give a better idea if it is ide or sata.
