Do you mean that you put a new internal hd in your laptop?brand new harddrive.
Do you remember doing anything before this problem started happening? Driver or software install?
Go here: http://support.dell..../...tid=&impid=
Expand chipset, and download the driver
Expand video, and install both drivers.
Does this fix your problem?

My hard drive died and had to be replaced. Nothing new was installed - I am currently downloading and installing will get back to you shortly after I finish and reboot.

The intel video driver was not able to install. Error message: "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will exit." I am downloading the nvidia driver now. Should I download the audio drivers?

Install the Nvidia driver. I don't think your laptop has Intel graphics anyway.
You could also do the audio drivers.

I installed all of the drivers you suggested as well as the audio ones and still have the same problem. In fact, even the windows operating system startup music sticks.

Try running a sfc check.
Go to Start -> Run -> sfc /scannow
If it prompts you for a Windows CD, then it has found a missing or corrupted system file.
If it closes without giving any output, then it found no errors.
If you don't have your Windows CD, use the workaround here: http://windowsxpsp2p...to-use-sfc.html

So, I do not have the disk and there is apparently *.dll files missing. I looked at your link but it still requires a disk to setup the I386 folder. I am not sure what to do.

You should already have the I386 folder in the root of your drive.
Just change the registry key mentioned in the article to C:

I followed the instructions, however, the only file pointing to the D:/ drive was SourcePath not SourcePatch. I changed it to C:/ and restarted my computer. I re-ran sfc and it still has issues. There were no SourcePatch files in the directory.

Do you have your Windows CD? If you do, then use it for sfc.
If you don't, then look for a friend from whom to borrow it from. Make sure it is the same version (Home or Pro).
EDIT: By the way, the registry key should be Sourcepath. Do you have an i386 folder in the root of your drive? Does sfc tell what dlls are missing?

I am apparently blind - it doesn't say patch - sorry. I did make the change and no luck nonetheless.
