Disconnect any new hardware from your system. The error you got was based on hardware on your system.

What new hardware have you added lately?

Any hardware change, like a driver install?

Hi -

The bugcheck on your Windows 7 BSOD -

0x8e = kernel mode exception
0xc0000005 = the exception - memory access violation
probable cause = afd.sys = Microsoft WinSock ancillary function driver
timestamp = Tue Apr 21 20:09:58 2009

The comination of afd.sys and the 0xc0000005 exception tells me that you probably have a 3rd party firewall like Norton Internet Security (NIS), KIS, McAfee, etc... What product(s) like these do you have installed?

Check in with the Device Manager - see if your NIC drivers are current
START | devmgmt.msc | expand netword adapters

Regards. . .

Can you boot to Windows at all?
What do you mean, you don't have any firewall? Did you disable Windows firewall?

I don't quite understand you. Do you mean that when you download any file you get a BSOD? Or did this happen with a specific file?

Not too good. Router firewall is a good tool, but I wouldn't disable Windows firewall. It's better to have double protection. Hardware, and software firewalls won't interfere with each other.

You definitely need to install some AV program...your computer may be infected already.

- Avast! free antivirus: http://www.avast.com...avast-home.html
- Avira free antivirus: http://www.free-av.c...load/index.html

- free PC Tools Firewall Plus: http://www.pctools.com/firewall/

- free Comodo Internet Security (firewall + AV): http://www.personalf...all.comodo.com/
NOTE. During installation, Comodo will also allow you to install AV only, or firewall only, if you prefer to combine one Comodo product with some other product.

If you decide to install Avast, or Avira, make sure, Windows firewall is turned on, or use PC Tools Firewall Plus.
If you decide to install Comodo, make sure, Windows firewall is turned off.

IMPORTANT! Make sure, you use only ONE antivirus, and ONE firewall.

Do the above first, and then since you didn't have any AV program installed, I'd
I suggest that you start a new topic in the Malware Removal and Spyware Removal area.

Before you start a new topic click on this link --> Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide, Please read before starting a new topic. This will give you a few preparations to make, as well as instruction for posting your OTListIt2 log.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

I can't promise you anything, but this would be very first step, which has to be performed.
