My laptop, a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pa 1510, is running slower and slower. It takes too long to start up, and even longer to start from sleep mode. When working on it it seems to be "hanging". While typing the letters doesn't show up, like the system can't keep up. (And I'm not THAT fast on the keyboard! :)) I don't really know where to look for the reason for this...

I have Vista home basic on this puter. The antivirus program, Norton 360, and has not found anything wrong. I just ran MBAM, and it didn't find any malware. I don't think this has come "over night", but the system has just gotten slower and slower. Anyone like to help me? :)

Norton itself may be one of the culprits.

Please, post some computer info:
- processor type, amount of RAM (hold Windows logo key, hit Pause/Break key)
- hard drive size/free space (open "My Computer", right click on hard drive letter, click "Properties")

Download, install, and run Whats Running.
Click on Take snapshot in the left pane.
New pop-up window will open.
Click on Save snapshot, and save the file as snap (.xml extension will be added automatically) to know location.

1. I don't see much here. System Idle Process stays at 95,3%, which is good.

2. You can disable few unnecessary startups:
- MsnMsgr
- WMPNSCFG
- Avi Player
- iTunesHelper

3. Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Unselect Cookies.
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Unselect Cookies.
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Opera browser
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Unselect Cookies.
Click the Empty Selected button.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

4. Run defrag.

Ok - it's done. Defrag took "forever", not sure how many hours. It seems like it was a little faster to start up afterwards, also from sleep mode. But still it hangs up while I type. And another thing, maybe it's a part of this trouble as well, I get an error message every time I'm shutting the pc down. Ccc.exe is preventing the computer from shutting down, and I have to choose the "shut down now"-button. Making any sense?

Ccc.exe is part of ATI Catalyst Control Centre, which is actually not needed as a startup.
Try to disable it in msconfig, and see, if it changes things for better.
