I have a PC with Vista OEM Home Premium 64bit edition. It calls it build 6001. I can provide the specs if nessesary, but it's running on a AMD Athlon 64x2 6000+ with 8GB RAM on an ASUS M3 board.

I went to go update it, and I noticed that there are tons of Vista updates not installed.

I would like to know what updates available since the build version that I have are the best to install.

Later on I will make a CD with the .exe/.zip files from the microsoft site if I have to do this again.

Can someone tell me which ones I should install?

build 6001 is an EVALUATION or BETA of windows vista.

If this is a legitimate version, then lets check a few things.

Check to make sure Vista is still activated.

Right click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop or in the start bar, and select properties. Scroll down and make sure Windows activation is set to activated, and there is a "Genuine" Icon.

If not activated or you do not see the Genuine Microsoft symbol then you will probably need to call Microsoft.

Yes, it has been activated. Did so via ethernet to a broadband connection.
It has the genuine logo next to that display.

I know that people create slipstream disks but I figured on downloading the 64bit updates individually from DVD-R.

I usually redo my OS installs every 6 months.

before I answer this question, please provide the information requested:

Please run the MGA Diagnostic Tool and post the report it produces:
  • Download MGADiag to your desktop.
  • Double-click on MGADiag.exe to launch the program.
  • Click Continue.
  • Ensure that the Windows tab is selected. (It should be by default.)
  • Click the Copy button to copy the MGA Diagnostic Report to the Windows clipboard.
  • Paste the MGA Diagnostic Report into your next reply.

are you getting an error when you try windows update? that is really the easiest way to do this. At the minimum, make sure you have the latest sp for vista installed. That will reduce the number of updates required. t will be easier when they release the next sp in a few months.

Yes, I have had some errors before on updates. Thats why I wanted to make sure I got downloaded updates instead of installing them automatically from the autoupdater in Vista.

Could this because the network has high traffic?

yes, a slow network can have impact.

I will tell you that at a minimum you need sp (sp2 when it comes out) and ms08-067.

To see a list of of updates, the latest bulletins from MS are available here: http://www.microsoft...ns/default.mspx

here is some good info on sp2 for vista: http://arstechnica.c...y-available.ars
