hello I have a problem with my Latitude D820. My computer starts up and loads through the starting windows XP screen then it gives me a blue screen that says

"STOP: c000021a (Fatal System Error) The Session Manager Initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000020 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down."

I have tried to run it in safe mode & the last known good configuration but it didn't work. When I ran the diognostics test it showed that the hardrive failed the test.

I was wondering if there is any way I could save my files onto a external hardrive or possibly fix my computer.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Which diagnostics test did you run? If you have another computer, I can give you instructions to create a disk which you can boot from and hopefully recover your files.

I hit F12 and went to the boot menu from there I was in the Pre-boot System Assessment Build 3022 and ran the diognostics test which tested the hardrive, memory, picture, and other hardware.

OK, well first lets get your files backed up. You will need another computer with a CD burner to do the next few steps.

Please download Puppy Linux from here. In order to burn this to a CD, you will need to use a program such as IMGBurn which you can get here

Once you have done this, put the newly created CD into your latitude and let it boot. It should boot into puppy linux.

At this point, you should be able to plug in your external hard drive and back up any files you need from within puppy linux.

I have a similar problem and made the cd but it didn't work, just the BSOD. Do you have another solution for getting the data off?

Although your issue may seem similar there can be other factors that may need to be resolved.
By bumping on someone's topic it makes it confusing for the tech to understand who they are helping. This can in turn cause the wrong support to be given and can cause instability or worse to happen to your system.
