I tried to restore my sony viao to its factory settings, through viao recovery centre. It wiped everything as it should, then started installing the basic programmes...however it stopped on a black screen with the message. OPerating System Not Found....gulp...so i turned it off and restarted it but it now it gets to the windows screen and makes a sound (in pain) and comes up with the message. Windows has not installed properly. I press okay and it restarts to that message again. etc...

I've asked from help from Soing but im out of warranty and they couldnt help me over the phone. They told me to try the recovery thing again which i did but the same happens....ive then tried the diagnostics and it says that no error can be found. So i don't think its the hardware.

I dont have a recovery disk, but if anyone thinks itrs just a case of purchasing one of these then that is my next step..

thankyou in advance.

Before you spend some money....

Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech....ay.cfm?ttid=287
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.

NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, unfortunately, you're out of luck, because Toshiba doesn't provide any diagnostic tool.
