computer wont shut down

When i shut down my computer it freezes on the windows 98 screen. Down the bottom of the screen it tells me to plese wait while you computer shuts down and thats where it stops....Can anyone help me out please... :tazz:

Have you got a scheduled anti-virus scan or another program that may be running in the background? How long have you waited? What is in the window after you press Ctrl+Alt+Delete once? Does it show any programs not responding?

Win 98 also has a problem in some case where the screen that tells you it's safe to turn off your computer fails to come up. There's a fix for this too.

ok i do have anti virus called VET and i also run Zone alarm pro... I have a squared trojan remover and i also run ad aware....

I've never had any problems with ZoneAlarm holding up a shut-down, but I have had one with an anti-virus program. You need to do the Ctrl+Alt_Delete and see what processes you have still running after you initiate a shutdown. Just select it and click End Task to force any program not closing or responding to close.

The other programs mentioned shouldn't be causing a problem unless they run on a scheduled scan that may coincide with your shutdown. Most are smart enough to do quick housekeeping chores and close quickly if running at shutdown.
