Evening ladies and gents,

I installed a HP suggested update for my HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC today (see details below). Against my better judgement I figured having the latest BIOS might be a good idea, even though my laptop was running fine as-is.

After updating to BIOS F.24 I now have the following issues:

1) When the display on the laptop turns off due to being idle 20 mins, it now doesn't come back on. If I press any keys to try and wake it up, it emits beeping from the internal speaker. As soon as I press power it turns straight off instantly.

2) I can no longer restart. The laptop shuts down normally, but when it tries to turn back on it powers up, but windows isn't loaded and it just hangs. I have to turn it off by holding down the power button then turn it on again.

I installed it just this afternoon, and I'm posting this just a couple of hours later, so I haven't had time to notice any other performance issues as a result of the update.

Long story short, does anyone have any ideas of what to do in this situation, or how a BIOS could cause the above problems?

I'm thinking of trying to locate and revert to the BIOS the 'update' replaced, below it mentions 'SUPERSEDES: sp43821' which is how HP classifies patches, updates, and installers. I do worry however that this patch applies to many different computers and therefore the BIOS in sp43821 doesn't apply to mine.

Should I try and locate the previous BIOS and revert? Can this be done?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.

The FIRST hp dv6-1230 that I bought from Office Depot had blue screen problems after about 2 weeks of normal use. I brought it back to the store and they gave me a completely new computer.....which also blue screened after using it for about 1 hour. Microsoft had sent an email to the store (Office Depot) stating that there are problems with some of the Windows automatic updates and this is causing blue screen problems in many computers. I am getting my THIRD new hp dv6 tomorrow, which hopefully will not have this problem. I am covered under a 3 year warranty, by the way.

To add to my above post....my third replacement computer of the same model crashed on friday, and was diagnosed to have a hard disk failure. I insisted on getting my money back from Office Depot, however they are forcing me to deal with HP. So now I will be getting a FOURTH replacement computer, in the span of 6 weeks. What a nightmare.
