Hi guys i have had major issues with my desktop running very slow with vista. So i have decided to do a clean install of windows 7 and start from scratch. Now the issue i am having is that when it gets to the install stage it copies files ok then it gets to expanding winsows files it sits there it has been over 2 hours that it sits at 0%. The dots are moving beside the 0% and the hard drive light is on constantly and occasionally flickers. I tried to restart the install and the same thing has happened. I am wondering if i should format the drive and wipe it clean before i do the install rather than just installing without a format. The other thing i dont know if it is an issue is i have windows 7 on a dual layer disc but my dvd drive is a few years old so i do not know if this is an issue. It read the disc fine but i thought i would ask anyway. Please help as i have to get my pc running

Hi,

If you can afford to do a full format then that probably a good start. It will leave a nice fresh partition to start from scratch with. Just make sure you have everything off the PC you need before hand as one you have formatted then its gone for good.

If after doing a fresh format it still doesn't work then I would maybe think about downloading a fresh Windows 7 install. That should eliminate the possibility of a broken install disk.

If after doing that should it still not work then post back and we can explorer it some more.

:)

However now you have said freezing and extremely slow it could also be a RAM issue :) Sorry to say that

Ok then well lets make sure.

Once you have finished the download Click Here.
Look for your relevant hard drive in the list and then download the relevant Data lifeguard install.

Use the Windows installer and see what errors it produces, if any.

Haha forgot that was the issue :) :)

Ok not to worry you just need the Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for DOS (CD) version instead of the Windows version.
That will allow you to make a Live Disk that can run without Windows or any other operating system.

tried to run that program and i recieved this error unable to locate licence agreement file dlglice.txt make sure it is in the same path as dlgdiage.exe

I take it this means the files on the disc which i have checked and they are both on the disc.

So that did not work either very odd

Ok weird.

As a test:

  • Turn off your PC
  • Unplug your hard drive
  • Turn on and boot to your WD diagnostics disk

Does it boot to the disk now?
