Hi there,

Thx in advance.

I have been over at Malware Removal Forum, and they say I am clean.

http://www.geekstogo...mp-t250180.html

Was not sure if its virus or comp, seems like its Vista or hard drive ??? Who knows.

O. S. is W. V.

Kaspersky, Ad-Aware, and Spybot.

Only had comp about 6 months, it’s a quad core, and was very fast, but know it’s very slow, and internet is slow. When I right click its takes about 5 to 10 seconds for it to come up, and programs like Word are also very slow, I did a full scan with Kaspery did use to take from 15 to 40 minutes, last night it took 8 hours.
Its been slow for about 10 days now, but on Sunday night when they were helping me over at Malware Removal Forum, it all of a sudden comp and internet started going as fast as it did before, this lasted about an hour.

Hi,

After an infection its possibly your PC is just dirty or in-fact there is an issue with your system. Please follow the steps below.

**********************************************************************************************************************

Do you have you origional Windows Vista disk?
If so lets run sfc:

We are going to scan your system for broken/ missing system files.

  • Click Start then select run , then press enter. A run window will open
  • type in cmd then press enter. Another window will open
  • type in sfc then press enter. Another window will open
  • type in sfc /scannow then press enter ( notice the space between the (sfc & /)
  • Now a scan will start , have your Windows XP disk ready. If your PC asks for the disc insert the CD into your CD Drive. When the scan is finished you will need to close the cd and all open windows , then remove the CD.
Then post back with the results.

    **********************************************************************************************************************
    Next please download AutoRuns.

    Please download Autoruns from HERE
  • Extract the Autoruns Zip file contents to a folder.
  • Double-click the "Autoruns.exe".
  • Click on the "Everything" tab
  • Remove any entries that mention "File Not Found" by right-clicking the entry and select Delete.
  • Go to File then to Export As.
  • Save AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
  • Attach to your next reply

**********************************************************************************************************************
Now lets do some more cleaning up.

In your Virus and malware thread did you run the tools that Chamber linked to in his last reply?
If not:

Please run both Auslogics defrag and TFC.

Run both program separately and see what the results are afterwards.

**********************************************************************************************************************

Now after those steps is there any increase in performance? If not:

How To Run Chkdsk /r from Recovery Console:
How to run checkdisk from recovery console (Windows xp). (Courtesy dsenette + rshaffer61)

Insert the Windows startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.
Note:Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted to do so.

When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
Note:If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console.
When you are prompted to do so, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
At the Recovery Console command prompt, type the following then press Enter:
chkdsk /r
Allow this to run UNDISTURBED until completed (45 min or so)
Report any errors

**********************************************************************************************************************

Also can you tell me the make and model of your hard drive?

Thanks :) :)

Please switch these around. You need to run Autoruns first. Then wait for Rev to give you the next step of Autoruns
After that then you run TFC and then Auslogics Defrag in that order.

If SFC cannot run then you can try the following to see if it will work

If you don't have Windows CD....
This applies mostly to Windows XP, since Vista rarely requires use of its DVD while running "sfc"
Note This method will not necessarily work as well, as when using Windows CD, because not always ALL system files are backed up on your hard drive. Also, backed up files may be corrupted as well.

Go Start and then Run
type in regedit and click OK

Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

You will see various entries Values on the right hand side.

The one we want is called: SourcePath

It probably has an entry pointing to your CD-ROM drive, usually D and that is why it is asking for the XP CD.
All we need to do is change it to: C:
Now, double click the SourcePatch setting and a new box will pop up.
Change the drive letter from your CD drive to your root drive, usually C:
Close Registry Editor.

Now restart your computer and try sfc /scannow again!

Thanks to Broni for the instructions

Could not find that in regedit, but as you said as I am on Vista, it may be diffrent, so went for the scannow, but it says I have to be the administrator to run that scan, thought I was.

Late here bed time for me, will be back in 10 hours.

And thx again.

This is the UAC control. You will need to run cmd with admin privelidges.

Go Start > All Programs > Accesories

Right click Command prompt and click on Run as administrator. Try sfc again.

Tell me how that does. Also don't forget to attach the auto runs logs before we can move on with Defrag and TFC.

Was not sure how to save them to desktop ???

Great, we just had the trip switch go so the scan was lost, trying to it again, it’s now scanning the same thing, beginning system scan, this may take some time, but it’s not seem to be starting ??? Will let you know if it starts in the next ten minutes.

Sorry about this.

The log will save either to the desktop or to the program folder (DEFAULT)
If you want to save it to the Desktop you will need to either
Cut and Paste it to the desktop
or
Change the location where the log is saved.

It’s not on my desktop, and cannot see it in my docs. I had this trouble with a scan when they were helping me on the other section.

And this scan is not starting.

Ok,

Go back and re do the AutoRuns steps. Then when you go to Export the autoruns document make sure you change the file location to Desktop or My Documents.
There may be a default location for the log but I'm not sure of it but rshaffer61 my fill me in on that.

Also what scan is it that won't run.

Just noticed that I have 8 objects quarantined in Kaspersky, just thought I best say.

I've just noticed that. Your best bet there will be to send a message to the user who helped you in the malware removal forum (I think chamber helped you) and ask them what to do with the files. I would say delete them but it a sensitive area so ask him and see what he say's
