Sorry, I am running a Pentium computer. I think its a 3Ghz with a gig of ram. It is Microsoft XP. I think i might have goofed up a setting or something. I thought i had a virus and was using a lot of the tools that were suggested while i waited for a response. I don't think i had a virus it must have been a false positive or a misreading by avira. Anyway everything was fine yesterday, but today my sound was skipping. I tried a restore to yesterday when i was all done with everything and cleaned up. I wonder if i deleted something when i was cleaning up or something.

Sound and video skipping where?
Internet, some multimedia player (which one?), DVD, CD?

It does it online, and running mp3, and avi. It even skips as i log into windows chime. It seems like a patterned sputter, as if the system is a giant wheel that hits the ground every one second or so and causes it to hesitate.
Edit: 1 second not half second I timed it

Download Process Explorer: http://technet.micro...s/bb896653.aspx
Unzip ProcessExplorer.zip, and double click on procexp.exe to run the program.
Click on View > Select Colunms.
In addition to already pre-selected options, make sure, the Command Line is selected, and press OK.
Go File>Save As, and save the report as Procexp.txt.

It looks normal, but....
Try to play some video, and then take another snapshot with Process Explorer.

Process Explorer doesn't fix anything. It only reports what's going on on your computer.
While NOT playing any video, System Idle Process (CPU NOT used) is listed at 90.30%
While playing videos, your available CPU cycles (System Idle Process) drop to 1.23% (!)
The rest is used mainly by:
- system - 38.89%
- WMPlayer - 10.49%
- explorer.exe - 9.88%
- DPC - 7.24%
The cause of this problem is unclear, yet.
Download, and install SpeedFan: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php
Post your computer temperatures:
Post two sets of results, one when computer idle, and another one, while playing any video.
