Restoring factory defaults

I have a dell laptop with vista, which i would like to restore to factory default settings. But when i press F8 at load up and select 'repair computer' nothing happens and the computer just loads up like normal. Can anyone help me with this method or show me another method to restore to factory settings, i would be very grateful, thanks.

With Dell hold CTRL and press F11 at Dell's logo.

What exactly do you mean by "doesn't work"?
It may be a matter of right timing.
How old is your Dell?
What are the issues forcing you to restore the computer?
