Hello,

In advance, thank you for helping resolve this issue. I have an acer Laptop, model Aspire 4720Z series, with Vista Home Premuium. The computer was purchased from Circuit City and it came with no Vista-CD. I am unable to boot the computer as it appears my system volume is corrupt.

During Booting:

1. If I click Start Windows Normally I get a blue screen.

2. If I click Safe Mode. It stops at crcdysk.sys

3. If I launch the Startup Repair (recommended), it starts to load and then goes into System Recovery Options. First I select keyboard layout (US), then apepars a screen prompting me to select an operating system to repair. There is nothing to choose in that screen (it is blank) then I can click "Load Drivers" or "Next". If I click "Load Drivers" it goes into System32 Folder (Under PQSERVICE X:) and have no idea what to do after that. If I click "Next", I get the Recovery Tools option. If I click on any of them it fails to complete.

Once again, thank you for your help.

-Larry

Update...

I ran chkdsk /F c: (three times)
as well chkdsk /R c:

now instead of a blue screen at boot time I get a black screen and stays there.

If I do recovery repair, it fails.

If I do Safe Mode...it still stops at crcdsk.sys.

Thanks,
-Larry

Stopping at crcdysk.sys would indicate some hard drive problem.
Is the computer still under warranty?

Thank you for your response. I believe it is out of warranty. So the a solution would be to replace hard drive? Is that difficult to do on laptop?

Thanks,
Larry

No, it's not, but let's try to establish, if it is HD problem.

Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech....ay.cfm?ttid=287
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.

NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, unfortunately, you're out of luck, because Toshiba doesn't provide any diagnostic tool.

Ok thanks...I am running the "Corrupted Sector Repair" for my Hitachi hard drive. The quick test said there were some corrupted drives that needed fix. We'll post to report the status after completion of this repair.

Once again, thanks.

Just finished doing the Quick Test, Corrupted File Repair and Advanced Test on my Hard Drive and every was completed successfully. When I try to login same thing is happening...

1. Normal Booting...goes to black screen with cursor

2. Safe Mode Booting...stops at crcdisk.sys and then goes to black screen with cursor.

Should I try running another I ran chkdsk /F c:

Please let me know what you thing.

If I were you, I'd simply replace the drive.
Any drive, where some errors were found will never be reliable.
You can try chkdsk though.

Hmmm so nothing else can be done? I tried chkdsk but nothing...is there anyway to reconfigure the hard drive to its previous state?

You can try to reinstall Windows, but all your data will be lost.

I wouldn't care about any data being lost...the computer came with no CD though for re-installment.

Your Acer should have recovery partition.
If you're able to reach Acer logo, press F10 key. It should get you there.

The F10 command doesn't work. What I did was create a windows Vista Recovery CD (ISO format) from:

http://neosmart.net/...-disc-download/

I ran repair and it said no problems found and yet I am still not able to login.

So, I am going to pursue replacing the hard drive but have a few questions and hopefully somebody can help out.

If I replace the hard drive with a new one...

Do I need to obtain a re-installation CD for vista? The recovery CD wouldn't work right? If so, where/how do I get a re-installation CD? The Vista Key is on the back of the computer.
