VHS to DVdirect

Hello to all I hope someone can help me. I am trying to record from my VCR to DVdirect. I have used AV cables and S-video cable. Set it all up per instructions. Hit play on the VCR and the DVdirect states "waiting for input signal". VCR/out DV set in. Have also tried with Roxio easy VHD to DVD software. As soon as I play VCR the capture button greys out. I am using the correct DVD disk. Here's is hoping you can help me. Scorpio
