This place seems nice, and i was just pondering.
You get hack forums, with big dark backgrounds and people swearing nonstop, and you get G2G, nice big white background, friendly community, always helpful;
is it like, Hackers are evil and Geeks are good?
like monotheism, a balance between the side of black and white, red and blue.
you don't actually have to read or respond, i'm incredibly bored and looking for entertainment wherever possible.

well...the answer to the part about the background colors on the website is simple...

this forum was designed by someone who knows what they're doing and actually wants people to be able to read what's been typed on the screen...."hacker forums" (*dsenette laughs derisively) are designed by idiots who want to look l337 and think a black background with gray text makes their site look more hackerish and "bad"...

as to the cursing and friendliness...it's about the same thing. this site is family friendly and designed to offer assistance to people in need...so we're all usually nice and we've got dirty word filters in place to keep the atmosphere friendly

"hacker" forums are frequented by idiots who "think" they're l337 h4x0rz and are therefore better than everyone else...which leads to arguments and flame wars....also i'd postulate that the population of those boards has a median age of 14...which explains the cursing...the kids can't curse all day in real life so they think it makes them cool to do it online where they won't get caught


as a side note to all of this....if there was an ACTUAL hacker forum, designed by/for REAL professional hackers who actually know what they're doing....you'd never find it or even know it exists....if you're REALLY a "hacker"...why in the world would you make a publicly viewable area for you to talk about what you do?
