Connecting 98 and XP computers

Hi all

What does it take to be able to network information from a Win98 to WinXP. I have a friend who has pics on an old computer and trying to figure out how to do this. Seems to me there is something that has to be set on the 98 computer to make it work and I am having trouble figuring it out.
