I have a HP Pavilion Laptop, under warranty with Best Buy.
I'm running Vista Home premium. The sound has gone missing, but Vista shows that the music\sounds are playing. Can someone help me to decide whether it is a hardware or a software problem? Please and thank you!!
Here is what has happened and errors already possibly fixed.
Wireless device quit. Took to BB. Motherboard replaced. Got computer home and didn't realize the repair folks had turned off Norton's. Realized sound was not working. Took back for repair. Diagnosis was Virus\adware\malware damaged operating system. I removed all I could find(using your site!) Still no sound. re-installed Vista to factory new. Updated all windows and drivers to get current.
No sounds No beeps, no speakers, no external speakers, no headphones. Usb headphones work, but I believe they work direct somehow.
I think it is a hardware issue. Can anyone help?

I suggest you go to the Malware Removal and Spyware Removal Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post the reguested logs in THAT forum. If you are unable to run any of the tools then start a new topic in the malware forum and put this in the subject line...I am unable to run any malware tools

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).
