Some of my friends here in college are always talking about downloading music and videos right here on campus. I've never really gotten into that b/c I always found purchasing my media to always be more reliable and easier. Anyways I was wondering just how network administrators of school networks and whatnot are alerted to illegal activity such as downloading music.

without getting into specifics...network administrators have A LOT of tools at their disposal

they inspect packets, check destinations and sources, and see what type of network traffic is going on, then take action based on these results
