HI there

I am running Win 7 and trying to access documents and settings folder. Unable to do so, receiving message to the effect access denied.
Can anyone offer some some advice how to be able to access folders in general if the denial input does occur.
Perhaps I should mention that I am the A dministrator of my PC in the event that plays any role

Tks

Hey there stern,

This is an easy one. Documents and Settings actually is merely a compatibility-wise placeholder in Vista/7; it doesn't actually exist, hence why you cannot access it. Instead, please try C:\Users.

Please let me know if this helps! :)

Try this and see if it will work:

Download Unlocker
It is suppose to fix the following problems:
  • Cannot delete file: Access is denied
There has been a sharing violation.
The source or destination file may be in use.
The file is in use by another program or user.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use
  • Simply right click the folder or file and select Unlocker
  • If the folder or file is locked, a window listing of lockers will appear
  • Simply click Unlock All and you are done!

HI RShaffer61
Unfortunately I have declined against Unlocker. The attached will indicate the exact reason which I hope you will appreciate.

Hey stern,

That's because the language Documents and Settings is no longer used; Users has now functionally replaced that folder. Speaking more technically, the existing "Documents and Settings" folder you see in your root directory is merely a placeholder to provide compatibility with older applications that do not properly reference the user directories with the applicable environment variables.

For the most part, everything you originally found in your Documents and Settings folder ought to be located in your Users folder instead now. Is there something in particular you were hunting for?
