Hello everybody,
I'm new here, its nice to meet you all. I was having problems with my computer I was wondering if you could help me out. I recently got a virus. I'm not sure of the name, but basically, it functioned as a fake antivirus program. It blocked my access to the internet, and whenever I tried to open a .exe file, it would tell me it was infected, and asked if I wanted to open my antivirus. Then it would perform a "scan" telling me I had about 1000 different infections, and tried to con me into buying an antivirus software to fix it. It may have been called "internet security". I recall one of the titles of the pages ending in the word "live."
At any rate, i figured out that i could open up the task manager if i pressed CTRL ALT DELETE the second windows started up, before the virus had a chance to load, and then i could turn off the virus. I then was able to turn on AVG and Spybot Search & Destroy, but they couldnt find anything. Scouring forums, I found a similar case, where the person said they fixed the problem by using Vipre. I downloaded a free trial of this (using a friends computer, i still couldnt use the internet), and sure enough, it found the virus and quarantined it.
The virus doesn't start up w/ my computer anymore, and I havn't seen any signs of it. However, I still can't get on the internet. It says I am connected to my router. And my roommates computer is on the internet, so I know its not the connection. It worked fine before the virus. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Please help!
Thank you very much for takin the time to read and help out,
Mike
