Why can't I upload downloaded videos from youtube?

Hi, I am having a lot of problems synchronizing downloaded videos(from Youtube) and even home videos(from my cam) onto my Ipod. My Itunes software says it's up to date, and I checked the settings, but I always get the same error pop-up of "(name of video) was not copied to the Ipod(name) because it cannot be played on this Ipod". Now I have a 30GB Ipod Video, and I don't know what to do. Can you please help?
