Sometime after starting to use Windows 7 I re-subscribed to Stopzilla. I have had no problems with this software both with XP, Vista and initially with Windows 7 going back some years.

For some reason, the program goes down within a few hours, and then works OK after re-booting. I can carry out a scan with it successfully, but then it will go down shortly afterwards, and a popup says, "An event has occurred causing Stopzilla to stop running - a reboot is required". I re-boot, it loads OK, I scan and then some time later it stops running again. This happens every day.

I tried uninstalling the program from Control panel, and ran a Stopzilla cleaning program supplied by the Stopzilla support (see attached log). I then re-installed the latest version, but to no avail. The same thing continues to happen - its keeps shutting down.

Now I cant even uninstall the program, as it no longer appears in the Control Panel (Uninstall programs) list. It is on my PC, because I can run a scan with it.

I can find it under All Programs, with an option for uninstall, but when I right click it a pop up says, "Only valid for installed programs" I click OK, and it does nothing.

It appears that the PC doesn't think the program is installed. I have attached a couple of popups that occurred early on in the piece, as well as the log from the Stopzilla clean tool. There is also a device error (that may be unrelated) which Windows flagged.

Can anyone out there help this Ozzie battler please! My understanding is very limited, but I'm having a go!

Download and install Revo Uninstaller
  • Double click the Revo Uninstaller icon on your desktop to start the program
  • Scroll through the listed programs and Right Click on the program you wish to uninstall
  • From the pop out menu choose Uninstall
  • Click Yes to the confirmation dialogue
  • In the next window select the Advanced mode
  • Click Next to start uninstalling the program
  • Answer Yes to confirm the uninstall
  • When the program has completed the four steps, click Next to allow the program to search for leftovers
  • Once complete, click Next, then Finish
  • Repeat the above steps for any other programs you wish to remove.

I'm not positive but this may help you remove StopZilla from your computer.

Hello Yeoman,

Have you checked compatibility?
Just an FYI for you.

It is always best to check with the software manufacturer FIRST. They will tell you if they have tested the product and the version, as well as whether or not it will work with Windows 7.
Check out the Windows 7 Compatibility site: (There you will find out about hardware and software compatibility.)
http://www.microsoft...us/default.aspx
There is a pulldown from which you can choose "hardware" and "software".

There are also some great articles, instructional videos and such to help with your Windows 7 at our Springboard site:
http://technet.micro...ws/default.aspx

In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!

As stated previously, it's best to have the Windows 7 certified drivers installed.

Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://social.techne...tegory/w7itpro/ . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for additional assistance and support.

Thanks again,
John M.
