Thanks for the link, but when I ran the Fix It, they couldn't fix it, and when I clicked "Explore other options to fix it," they decided to be cute, and only offered the suggestion that I upgrade to Windows 7. Anyone have any ideas how to fix it without dumping Vista?

Have you tried a different drive?
It sounds like the write side of the drive has failed. Not such a uncommon issue anymore.
Read side works fine but the write side does not.

A different drive? I'm not sure what you mean (I'm sorry if this sounds ignorant.) As I mentioned above, the write side doesn't work at all anymore, and read side isn't working well either. It reads professionally made disks, like Maya and 3Ds Max Animation with Biped, but it won't read photo disks or any of my previously written disks from home. I checked the properties of the drive and it says that it's functioning properly (please see attached screenshot.)Did you mean dump the drive in question and get a new one (if so, how?) If not, what do you mean?

Write side is the part of the drive that actually does the burning of the data to the cd.
Every cd\dvd drive that is read and writable has two so called sides to it.
One side does nothing but reads a disk and plays the data on it.
The other side does all the actual burning of data.
Your drive with your last comment sounds like it is failing fast.

Yikes... so is there any saving it, or do I buy/download/install a new one...? I don't know what to do, but whatever it is, I need to do it quick, or I won't be able to use this computer much for work or homework.

Can you borrow one from someone?
Make sure it works correctly or try your drive in another system.
If not possible then yes you would have to purchase a new one to see if that fixes the problem.

Are you still having problems with your issue?
It has been 8 days since your last response and I was wondering if the issue has been resolved?
If so can you explain how it was resolved so others may be able to fix it if they have the same issue.
If not please let us know and we can continue with helping you to resolve the issue.

Sorry, I'm down with the flu, haven't made it to the store to have it checked out. No, it has not been resolved. If you guys have any other ideas, I'd love to hear them. If not, I'll definitely let you guys know as soon as it's resolved, one way or another. Thanks for checking back!

I will wait for your store visit as that may be the only way to fix the problem.
