I'm trying to figure out what the difference between the two video formats is.... AVI and WMV?

I've been using Windows Media Player and have captured a lot of digital video to my hard drive. It's in WMV format. I just purchased Adobe Premiere Elements, and noticed that it always captures files in AVI format. That's not a biggie to me....but I want to know what the advantages/disadvantages of each format are. Should I go back and re-capture my video to AVI format? Is that a format that renders a better quality???

Im sure someone out there knows.....

Thanks!

avi is higher quality, also takes up more hd/dvd space. Here is a good source of information on video:
