I am running Windows 7 Professional, 32 bit. I have had a random problem that has occurred in only two scenarios that I have observed. When I click on the date/time in the tool bar or when choosing a fill color in MS Excel my computer will immediately turn off. Windows 7 does not go through a shut down sequence, it just powers off immediately. It does not happen every time, but I can cause it to happen if I repeatedly click on the date/time in the tool bar. There is no error message or warning. Not sure if this is a Windows 7 problem or a hardware problem, and I don't know where to begin troubleshooting this. I work on my PC from home all day, and I have yet to see this problem occur in any other application or scenario other than the 2 I have described, and it does not happen with any regularity.

Thanks in advance for any advice you might have for me.

this sounds like a Excel issue...not a windows issue...try reinstalling Excel/office...
if that doesn't help post the problem in the applications forum here

So the date/time in the toolbar is associated somehow with Excel?

sorry...I thought you meant when using excel...just out of curiosity why are you clicking on the date/time...
are you left clicking or right clicking...

or when choosing a fill color in MS Excel my computer will immediately turn off

this is related to Excel...

The only reason I ever really have to click on it is to look at the calendar. It would be a normal left click.

Thanks,
Brent

Interesting....after I added my last post, I tested something. I can not recreate the scenario unless an office application is open too. I am going to reinstall the Office suite and see if that solves the problem.....Thanks for the suggestion. I will post again if it does or does not solve this.

I ran the repair utility in the setup of Office....and after a solid minute of rapidly and repeatedly clicking on the date/time and the fill function in excel....I can no longer recreate the problem.

Thank you for the suggestion. You can close this thread.

Well.....I click on it to actually look at the full calendar....and it did it again right after I read your last post. Close this thread, and I will do a full reinstall of Office. If I still have a problem, I will post a new thread in Applications.
