I wonder if some of you kind people can get me through this problem?

Upgrade advisor tells me it's okay to upgrade, but my system refuses to upgrade, it starts okay, then ceases after the first 2 stages are completed and the 3rd stage starts! (says some files are missing, ensure said files are installed, but doesn't state what files :) the vista application was quite freshly installed from CD and updated! The Windows 7 CD is an upgrade and worked okay last time ) and it gives me error code 0x80070570. At no time has it asked for the product key either.

Thank you!

Howdy:

How many systems have you upgraded using this cd?

My last hard drive crashed, and on trying to reboot it, it froze, and so I had to buy a new hard drive which I am now using! that's all. (I still have the old hard drive, but I'm no hand at fixing things, so it's stored in a drawer}

So you installed Vista prior to using the upgrade?

So you installed Vista prior to using the upgrade?

Murray

Yes, that went okay, and updated itself via the webb, then I checked the upgrade capability (again) with windows 7 upgrade advisor.

I'm puzzled as to why you asked that question! it's a windows 7 home premium upgrade from Vista home premium, so naturally I installed Vista first, prior to upgrading :)

As I said, after installing vista successfully, I went ahead with the 7 upgrade and the following happens:

Upgrading Windows

Thats all the information we need right now, your computer will restart several times during the upgrade!

Copying Windows Files ..... Okay!

Gathering Files, Settings and programs ..... Okay!

Expanding Windows Files ..... after 3% it stops and the message underlined comes up!

Installing features and updates ... This does not happen!

Transferring files, settings and programs ... This does not happen!

Upgrade was cancelled

Any changes made will not be saved

Windows cannot instal required files, the files maybe corrupt or missing.
Make sure all files required for installation are availabe, and restart the installation! error code 0x80070570

It does not say what files they are referring to -

Take a very close look at your upgrade cd. Is it dirty or scratched anywhere?

Have you tried running a cleaner through your dvd drive?

Any electronics store would sell it.

Where did you get your upgrade cd from?

If you know the make of your new hdd, go to the manufacturers website and download their diagnostics program. Install it on either a floppy or cd-r and use that to boot the system with.

Let it run. It will tell you if there are problems with the hdd.
