Hello,

I have recently left the malware forum and have been asked to start a new topic here. The link to the previous topic is listed below.

http://www.geekstogo...58#entry1761458

I had recently downloaded a picture from the internet to my computer. After downloading the pic, the graphics on my computer screen have been damaged. The screen shows numerous tiny vertical lines upon startup when the initial VAIO logo appears. But upon windows starting, the screen shows 10 thick, vertical lines running vertically down the length of the screen. The graphics behind these lines are unaffected and I am able to see the program I am working on from behind these lines.
Since this has happened, the computer will no longer start in normal mode and each boot must be in safe mode with F8. The gentleman who helped me in the malware forum has thoroughly checked and rechecked the computer for any signs of malware and there isn't any present. So, now I'm hoping someone here can help restore the computer to a successful working state. Thank you for considering this post and I hope to hear from you soon.

It looks like video card problem.
Desktop, or laptop?
If desktop, separate video card, or on-board video?

Hi Krakow,

Thank you for getting back to me so soon. It is a desktop. I'm sorry, but I should know about video cards and do not. Where do I look to find if the video card is seperate or onboard?

Look at the back of your computer:

If your monitor is plugged in in Area 1, you have on-board video, if in Area 2, you have real video card.

The computer and monitor is a solid unit. The back of it doesn't look like the images shown.

It must be on-board video then.
Try to reinstall video driver.

Which driver is the video driver? Can I find the driver in device manager or is it something I need to purchase?

Download this driver from Sony website: http://esupport.sony...l...05&os_id=28
Uninstall current video driver through Device Manager and install fresh one, you just downloaded.

Is this computer still under warranty?

Go Start>Control Panel>Device Manager
Expand "Display adapter" key.
You'll see nVIDIA entry.
Right click on it, click "Properties", then "Driver" tab.
Click on "Uninstall driver" button.

Restart computer.
Install fresh driver.

Thank you for the link. I uninstalled the driver, restarted, then installed the new one and restarted. The graphics are the same and I still have to boot in safe mode. Is there another option we can try?

I'm afraid, your video chip may be damaged.
I'm not familiar with this all-in-one type of Sony desktop, so I can't tell you, if a real video card be installed to replace on-board video.
I simply don't know.
