Hi and welcome to Geeks to Go!
From what you've described, I would imagine that there might be a problem with either your display's hard drive or your video card itself. Without more detailed information, I can't give you any specific solutions. Can you reinstall your video adapter's driver?

I would suggest you search your laptop brand's website for a download containing your specific model's video device drivers. (What is your model?). Download the drivers from the company's website, and they should have instructions on how to download them. Usually it's just a .EXE file that you will download and run.
If you can't download the drivers to your system, download them onto another computer and transfer the download file via a USB flash driver.
I don't know if this will solve your problem, but it's good to cover all your bases. let me know how it works out for you.
