Thanks buddy. Just for laughs though, thanks a lot for your help and the professional attitude, but I joined mid 2006, so forum introductions are a bit delayed :) (just messing with you)

Having a bit of an issue with this. As the combo box feeding the image selection is itself being fed by by the cascading lists, when I assign the code you supplied it destroys the settings I have set up to make the cascading lists work. Could I send you my files so you can see how I have it set up?

Sorry to be a massive pain!

Hello Tiroshii,

If the file is not too big, go ahead and attach it here, otherwise post it to Mediafire and post the link to that...I should have some time this evening to review...

Macros will need to be enabled to ensure the cascading lists work

Hopefully this will work without the spreadsheets to feed the lookups...

Hi tiroshii,

As we both suspected, the combo boxes fail without the associated look up lists from the spreadsheets.

A couple of follow-up questions, if you don't mind.

  • What are a couple examples of grouping of cascading combo boxes in the form?
  • Is this the database without the image code?
  • I ask since I don't see any image controls in the form, so I suspect they were taken out with this version given the problems you were experiencing with them?
Just curious about storing the look-up lists in Excel, instead of creating them within the database... :)

I hope to mock up a form with some cascading combo boxes and do some further testing, but I probably won't have a chance to do so until later in the week.

Sincerely,

dm

I took the image control out as it stopped other aspects of the db from working
the cascading lists were used to make 'worktop colour' and 'corner desk worktop colour' feed off the 'worktop type' cbo.

The look up lists were initially made in excell by the company and are used within other systems as well. The reason I kept them as spreadsheets and created them as a linked table within the database is so that they can be edited with more ease than in a db, and without the need of opening the db full stop. Just made it easier.

Hello tiroshii,

Thanks for the additional info. This is still on my to-do list, but I have not had a chance to start it yet.

Hi Tiroshii,

I'm not sure if you are still working on this project, but if you are, can you tell me how your dependent lists are structured?

I know I gave you a link to Martin Green's site for Cascading List tips, so I'm wondering which example you based your code on?

Thanks again,

dm

I used Example 1 as it seemed to work the best.
