Win7 crashes randomly, no blue screen

Hi GeeksToGo, I'm having some issues with my PC. Every once in a while it crashes to a strange white/off-white screen with lots of thin vertical off-white/light blue/light green stripes. I can't see a pattern to when it crashes either, it seems to be random. I'm also having problems with random programs not opening, or crashing (without the whole system crashing). I do regular scans with AVG and SuperAntiSpyware.


My System:
Intel Core i5-750 Proc
Asus P7P55D Pro MoBo
2x 2Gb Corsair DDR 1333MHz RAM
Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 Video Card
WD Caviar Blue 500Gb HDD
Ultra X4 500W PSU (with 32A on the 12V rail)
Windows 7 Home Premium Edition


I had some friends suggest that my PSU might be underpowered, and some others suggested faulty RAM. I'm not certain how to find out for certain though. Any help?

It's possible I guess, but my case should be sufficiently cooled. Can you recommend a good temp monitor program?

Ok, so I updated a bunch of drivers and ran memtest. MemTest wouldn't run using the latest version (3.5 I think), but it did run when I tried the 3.4 version and it came up with no errors. Now I'm getting blue screen crashes. They BSOD doesn't last long enough to read everything on it, but one says something about Memory Management and the other IRQL not less or equal or something like that.

After one crash, I got a message telling me to repair windows which I did. Halp!

To keep it from automatically restarting:
  • Click the "Start" button and select "Control Panel".
  • If you are using an expanded Control Panel, select "System". Otherwise click "System and Security", then "System".
  • In the left pane, select "Advanced system settings". (If the User Account Control dialog box appears, click "Yes").
  • Click the "Advanced" tab.
  • Under "Startup and Recovery", click the "Settings" button.
  • Under "System failure", uncheck "Automatically restart".
  • Click "OK" on the dialog boxes to close them.

Ok, I did that. Here is the most recent crash and what I was doing before.

I booted up, and everything was normal until the desktop showed up. The task bar was the wrong colour, sort of light blue (it's normally dark blue). I tried to open Firefox, but it crashed and I got the mozilla crash helper thing. I tried two more times with the same result. On the fourth try firefox opened. I then clicked on iTunes, and the PC crashed to a blue screen that said "Memory_Management"

Simply "Memory_Management" is not enough of a clue as to what the problem might be. Is there any more detail in the error message?

Have you tried using System Restore to restore your computer back to a point in time before this recent problem began?

Download and run BlueScreenView (no installation required):

When scanning is done, click "Edit" > "Select All", then click "File" > "Save Selected Items" and save the report as BSOD.txt. Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content and then paste it into your next reply.

Run eventvwr.msc and look in the System log for recent errors ... especially "disk" errors which may indicate drive and/or file corruption. If you see any, double-click one to read the details. Note that you can copy the description to the clipboard by clicking the double-paper copy icon, and then paste it/them here if you like.
