Unfortunatly my skills at Vista are limited. When trying to boot normaly or any of the safe mode options including repair all I get is a black screen with a functioning mouse. I do not ever get to the login screen. Oddly enough even when trying to use the Vista DVD to run a repair it does the same thing. The history of my friend is that he took out the laptop battery to save the life of the battery but his Wife did not know this and unplugged the system. Since then it has been as I described above.

Ok so I didn't expect to get so lucky but I managed to fluke my way into a solution. I connected the drive as a slave on windows 7 system, it might have worked the same on a vista but I didn't have one ready to go. Once it booted up it recognized that the slave drive had errors and it ran a check disc. I had concerns that it was running windows 7 version. Once it finished I took the drive and put it back into the laptop. Booted up, running its own chkdsk now as a finaly measure. I read many post on many sights with people stummped with this one, hope my solution actually works for others.
