Hi everyone. I'm getting crashes frequently on my new computer (Windows 7, not XP). Sometimes I'm not even actively using it when it happens. I can be on the internet or word processing and suddenly the monitor fills up with thousands of tiny color spots and the computer shuts down. Here is what it says when it comes back on and I click for details. Please help! Thanks!

Edited to add one more thing. I downloaded speedfan and the temps are all from 32C-48C, but then there is one (Temp2) that is 58C with a fire icon next to it. Is that the problem? If so, how do I fix that? Thanks again!

The files you are analyzing from BlueScreenView. They are located in C:\WINDOWS\Mindump.

I'm sorry, I can't figure out how to view the file. I've located the dmp file, but is there a program I need to download to view it so that I can cut and paste it here?

Maybe this will explain what is happening...

0x0000009F: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

A driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state. Typically occurs during events that involve power state transitions, such as shutting down, or moving into or out of standby or hibernate mode.

Is the problem happening when coming out of power saving or hibernation mode?

No, there doesn't seem to be any particular thing that sets it off. Thanks for the reply, though.

Go to
Start and then to Run
Type in Chkdsk /r Note the space between k and /
Click Enter ...It will probably ask if you want to do this on the next reboot...click Y
If the window doesn't shutdown on its own then reboot the system manually. On reboot the system will start the chkdsk operation
This one will take longer then chkdsk /f

Note... there are 5 stages...
It may appear to hang at a certain percent for a hour or more or even back up and go over the same area...this is normal...
DO NOT SHUT YOUR COMPUTER DOWN WHILE CHKDSK IS RUNNING OR YOU CAN HAVE SEVERE PROBLEMS
This can take several hours to complete.
When completed it will boot the system back into windows.

Let me know if this fixes the problem

I downloaded Windows Debugger, but I still can't view the dmp files because it says I need administrator permission. I feel like throwing this CPU out the window. I copied it the dmp file name into a new desktop folder and when I click to open it, it quickly scrolls through the file in a small window and disappears. It won't stay open so that i can cut and paste it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Rshaffer61, I just saw your reply. Should I do that even before I cut and paste the dump file? Thanks for your help.

Attach the dmp file for Diabillic to look over first.
Then see what his response is. After attaching the files for him please do the following while waiting for his response.
Download Speedfan (The download link is to the right), and install it. Once it's installed, run the program and post here the information it shows.
The information I want you to post is the stuff that is circled in the example picture I have attached.
To make sure we are getting all the correct information it would help us if you were to attach a screenshot like the one below of your Speedfan results.

To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard.
  • It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
  • Now go to Start and then to All Programs
  • Scroll to Accessories and then click on Paint
  • In the Empty White Area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
  • Go to the File option at the top and click on Save as
  • Save as file type JPEG and save it to your Desktop
  • Attach it to your next reply

Thank you for the quick response. The speedfan readout is attached.

Do you know how I go about posting the dmp file?

Attach the dmp file as you would a picture or any other file.
After doing that do the chkdsk /r steps.
Your speedfan results are within acceptable ranges.

I cannot post the dmp file. I can access it, but I can't see it long enough to cut and paste. When I attempt to just upload the file here without opening it, the upload fails and a message informs me that I can't upload that kind of file. It may be a Windows 7 permission issue and I can't make heads or tails of those.

Rshaffer61, I tried to run the chkdsk/ r steps, but it won't work. A box comes up and immediately disappears, so I can't read what it says or take any further steps. Incidentally, this is exactly the same problem I have when I try to open the dmp file. A small window opens, which shows the file (presumably) and almost immediately closes so that I can't copy it (or do anything else with it, for that matter).
