omega2692-

Hi and welcome to Geeks to Go! :)

I would use a disk wipe program, like Derik's Boot and Nuke, to wipe the data from the drive completely (make sure you backup your data!), then use your XP disc to install the OS again. You can grab DBAN from my signature.

Hope that helps! Let me know if there's anything else I can do to assist you. :)

Hey, thnxxx for replying and helping....
i tried formatting bt it didnt work....
still stops at checking hardware configuration
then, i read somewhere it maybe due to partitions in system drive!!!
I checked it in windows 7 installation and found out that my system part of hard disk has 3 divisions one is of 19.4 gb nd 2 r of 0 nd 2 mb
can they be the reason for XP nt installing?nd if yes then hw to get rid of them because deleting nd expanding like functions are nt working on them in windows 7 installation!

if this is a tower you may want to consider a Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP...

Windows will not erase a recent OS (Win 7) to install an older version (Win XP) of an OS so when your XP cd is inspecting your hard drive it sees that you have a newer verson of Windows and stops its process.

If you want to get rid of Windows 7 and install Windows XP only you first have to erase Windows 7 using a third party program (DBAN) like FNP suggested otherwise you will never be able to install XP unless you do it in dual boot which you do not seem to want to do.
