Where are you getting the install DVDs? Are they burned or retail disks?

You can't split the ISO for install with Windows 7 Beta, and there isn't a CD install release. Are you sure there isn't an option in the bios to boot from the USB drive?

How far along into expanding the files does it give you an error?

Actually if you had a IDE Hard drive.
I know with certain boards there are issues and 7 doesn't want to install with those DVD drives.

Every time I had to install 7 I had to use a SATA dvd burner and the install always went thru.
There seems to be a strange issue with that.

So if you got a IDE Burner that could be a issue you are having.

For the XP issue, is the reading system set up for IDE XP has issues with running under a ACHI reading system.
So its always good to have it set to detect everything as IDE.

its also called PATA only / PATA-SATA compatibility.

Go into your computers bio's.
And look for what the hard drives are being read as.

It will normally say.
Configure hard drives as.

SATA/PATA, PATA, SATA.

Or have.

IDE, ACHI, IDE COMPATIBLE.

Your looking for either PATA, or IDE.
Sometimes the SATA/PATA, / IDE-Compatible.

Will work.

For the 7 thing, if its what I assume it is.
Probably a SATA Burner.

(1 skinny cable instead or a big gray one.)

Try configuring it differently first.
