Hi,
I have a new laptop, Acer Aspire 5536G, which I mainly use to transport and show photographs.

I then found that having the Internet hooked up would be an advantage but I cannot get the IE8 to work.

I have tried Mozilla setup but again no go.

However the Norton Antivirus and other programs that automatticaly update will do so.

On the taskbar the little icon says I am connected.

I have a Broadband account and use an ADSL Router on my desktop computer and have no problems.

I noticed on the Laptop that there is an Ethernet (RJ-45) port on on side and a Modem (RJ-11) port on the other side so I assume that a Modem is built into the system.

Not being a computer wizard I will need step by painfull step help and as I live in Australia I may be a bit slow at replying due to the time difference and the need to work.
Regards

Hi Happyrock,
That's ok, I know you guys can get busy.
Tomorrow, my time (AEST) I shall try turning the firewall off and will let you know what happens.

when the little icon in the taskbar says you are connected...
click on start then run...type in cmd...press enter...
at the command prompt type in ipconfig /all press enter...
NOTE the single space before the /

get a copy of your network info...

right click...click on mark...go down to the bottom right edge of the info window...left click then holding the left click button down go up to the top left hand side (go above the window so you get all the way to the top ) and when its all turned white...press crtl + c keys...
open notepad and press ctrl + v keys paste it...
copy and paste it back here for me...

Hi happyrock,
Don't panic moving house is not on my best things to do either.

As requested I checked the device manager for any yellow ! or ? marks.

There were none and to make sure I expand each one to double check. Not a yellow ! or ? marks at all.
