hello. im new to this board and hope maybe someone can help me. i have an old Dell CPX latitude laptop. it has windows XP on it. i mainly use it for internet since its old and slows down when i do much else. it always works fine til today. heres what happened, i was online with it and had forgot to plug it in. by the time the laptop told me the battery was about to die, it pretty much just shut off on me, no biggie has happened before..NOW when i restart it, it will not recognize my wireless lan adapter or even recognize it connects wirelessly at all.

when i open network connections the window is empty, also the icon in the bottom that would show my wirless connectiion and signal strength is gone. i have tried starting a new connection but it wont even recognize it is wireless. the lan adapter itself (Cisco Aironet 350 series) lights up and the the status and activity lights continue to work, but when i insert it in and out, my laptop wont recognize it at all. it does this in both slots for a LAN adapter

also, when i try to go into device managers, none of my devices show up just a blank window. could the loss of power and shutdown have done something to cause all this? again it has happened a lot (battery dies and laptop just shuts off) and ive never had this problem. any help would be great..thanks for taking time to read this

also i dont think its a issue with my wireless router, as my Wii and xbox360 connect wirelessly to the same router and have been working fine.

Hi MB666,

It sounds like you system services have been turned off. Go to Start>run and type in "msconfig" (no quotes). On the General tab make sure Normal start up is checked. If not check it and click OK. Restart the PC.

wow! that solved it! man i thought this was gonna be some overly complex problem that would lead to me needing a new laptop..i cant begin to thank you enough. thank you thank you thank you...thank god their are helpful people like you in the world.
