Sky Broadband keeps disconnecting

Hi, I recently joined Sky broadband and seem to be having problems with my desktop PC connecting to the internet. My PC is connected wireless using a dongle as it is upstairs and the line is downstairs. I used this dongle with BT and had no problems, however with Sky the internet keeps disconnecting, sometimes an error message pops up saying that my settings are not compatible with the computer even though a)the settings have not been changed and b) the settings are exactly the same as those on my laptop which I am not having any problems with at all. Obviously something must be wrong with either the dongle or the computer settings, however so far I have having no joy detecting them!! Can anyone help please??
