computer crashes

Whenever I try to scan for virues with my Norton Antivirus program or try to scan for spyware with XoftSpy or scan with Ad-aware, my computer restarts in the middle of the scan, thus aborting the scan. Sometime I will get an alert box saying that my computer has recovered from a serious error (upon rebooting). But the solutions are always different ....I have done every one and I still have the same problem.
