A virus check reveals no viruses. My next step may be to use the restore in Windows XP to dial back to a day when everything worked. Initially, I could not reboot to Windows after shut down, but fixed this by checking the on/off button, which was sticking. I was getting a prepetual re-boot with no boot to Windows. That does not appear to be a problem now. Any suggestions?

Welcome to GTG skytrain
Are you able see the CD-RW under "My Computer"? What error messages (if any) are you getting, and what do they say?
