I downloaded what I thought was an update to my realplayer software this past Saturday; October 23, 2010. I did this (like an idiot it seems) because I was in the middle of using the realplayer to download a video from youtube and this box pops up and tells me that my realplayer might be corrupt and that I need to download some files and I do. The download looked really legit but then most fake stuff does right?
The next day, Sunday October 24, 2010 I turn on my computer and I get this message that the system can find my localized settings and so it would load with some generic settings. I then restarted the computer and looked up how to find my localized folder on the hard drive and I found the folder and looked in it and found these two files that had the date 10/23/2010 4:21pm which is around the time I
download those supposeded "RealPlayer" Files. The two files are DCBC2A71-70D8-4DAN-EHR8-E0D61DEA3FDF.ini and GDIPFONTCACHEVA.DAT
I looked up both those files and read conflicting views about whether they are okay or were actually harmful viruses.
I thought about what I had downloaded recently or what software I had installed and the answer is limewire, frostwire and the "realplayer" files. I looked in my Revo-Uninstaller to see if those realplayer files were listed and they weren't. There was an update for my realplayer when I upgraded from the old one to the current version and that was on September 30, 2010. There is no listing of the downloaded files from Saturday, October from, 2010. Realplayer does have updates and they are from the two following dates
October 15, 2010 RealPlayer Update
Security update.
August 26, 2010 RealPlayer Update
Security update.
As I mentioned the last update I had with realplayer was September and I only have have one update listed.
I went into the localized folder today Monday, October 25, 2010 because I couldn't remember the names of the two files and while I was there I wanted to copy the file and put it onto a disk or something...boy was that a mistake! When I got to "MY Computer" view I was missing my personal folders meaning I am missing my "DG Folders"!
Can someone please help me out with this situation?
