disk read error problem

Sounds like the hard drive is on it's last leg and needs to be replaced ... the sooner the better. (Get your stuff copied off of it before it completely dies).

I agree with SpywareDr that it sounds like your hard drive is dying.
It could be worth it to check the status of your drive with a program like HD Tune.
This program can check the health of your drive and maybe shed some light on how serious the problem is.
You can find the webpage of HD tune here:
Download page (scroll down for the link to the free edition, current version: 2.55)
Remember that it is smart to make sure your data is safe first, that should be your first priority right now!
Do this by putting the data on an external hard drive, USB stick or network drive depending on how much data is involved.
Since your computer hangs after some time, it might be better to move data in small chunks, a few files at a time.
This way u will not have to repeat the process of copying data entirely, should the computer hang.
