i was able to get into the bios setup and i switched the cd drive to appear before the hard drive, still no luck.

The CD drive or the DVD drive? What items were listed in the Boot Sequence? And did you save the change upon exiting the BIOS?

sadcomp, try to get the DVD drive to be the first device to boot at a later time, but for now go back to the DOS thingy and type the following:

copy c:\windows\system\dllcache\explorer.exe c:\windows\explorer.exe

And try to load Windows after that.

i tried to change my BIOS configuration. originally, i had 1. Atapi CD-ROM drive, 2. Hard Drive, 3. Removable Devices (Floppy Disks), 4. Network Boot. I tried putting the cd drive and removable devices first, still no luck. i also tried to copy the explorer file, but i got the error: file not found, 0 file(s)copied.

However, i was on google trying to see what other people did that had the same problem as me. One person suggested to edit the system.ini files by changing the shell=explorer.exe to shell=winfile.exe. After i did that, i tried to load windows and got the same error message. However, after the error message popped up, the file manager also opened. Does that help at all?

The reason why I want you to have the DVD drive listed first in the Boot Sequence is because it makes things easier for us to get you to access a useful interface through a bootable CD. I'm a bit confused here. I thought you had two drives (CD and DVD). Is one of the drives not recognized by the BIOS?

Anyway, I was hoping the second suggestion would work, as in Windows 98, there is no system32 folder, but only the system folder.

Anyway, it seems like you're able to do extra stuff now, right? Are you able to search for any instance of explorer.exe through the file manager?
