help buying new desktop

I am looking for some information to helpp me in selecting a desktop system. I want to setup a wireless network at home and that is all I will be using the desktop for. I don't want to spend too much on the system but i am not sure about things such as having a different operating system on the desktop as the laptop i will be using. how much will the operating speed and memory affect the performance on my wireless? What kind of wireless card should i be looking for? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
