There possibly is a Recovery Partition already on the hd to bring the system back to factory settings.

Norton is all you have for protection?
Have you been through the malware section to check with the tools there to make sure you don't have a hidden infection?

there is no recovery partition not sure what i have for security my dad hooked me up but i know i have norton the comp is a dell inspiron 1525

i want to restore to factory settings ive made a post here not to long ago about the same thing but decided to live with the way the comp was untill now will a bootable vista repair DVD allow me to restore to factory

also after an hour of being a total [bleep] to the people at dell (the only way to get answers these days) they told me that the advanced boot options - repair your comp will not work if the previous owner has formatted the drive which is why i cant find that option

Your original topic is HERE which you never finished. You need to get the OS disk to do a fresh install.

The only way to do a fresh install is to have the installation disk.
You can either purchase a Vista installation disk and do this all from scratch or contact Dell and see about purchasing a set of recovery cd's which will contain the OS and all drivers for your system.
