My problem: I live in a student halls of residence in Liverpool which runs on a big network for the whole building. I recently went home for a few weeks, and moved back in last friday. Before I went home I never had any issues with internet connection, but since friday i have not been able to connect at all. I can connect to the network locally without any issues, but connection to the internet just doesn't happen. It is not wireless, it is broadband which runs on a cable connected from the wall
I have tried swapping cables, and have tried using my roommates ports but all to no avail. Furthermore, all my roommates/friends in other flats can connect fine.
Also, I have gone to pc repair shops and been able to connect to their wired and wireless networks woth no problem..so at least my computer isnt broken! . I have ensured that my settings are set to detect dns automatically and all that jazz. I have tried uninstalling antivirus software and disabling the firewall, and re-installing the drivers.
Not really sure what the issue is...I don't recall changing any settings or anything. My guess is that somehow over christmass holidays my settings got changed, or that I have just scrambled them up so much whilst I've been attempting to fix it.

I use a Toshiba laptop, running on windows vista home premium and with avast free antivirus.
I have tried speaking to the isp and the landlords but to be honest they're being bloody useless and are harder to get hold of than my ex-girlfriend. So I thought my best shot was on here...with exams all this week and next week I am getting depserate!
