Tiling seems only to work when you have a 'pattern'. Preferrably
so small that it all blurs into a halftone anyway.

Sorry, no good tips to solve the blur. Even the best photo editors
cannot make up information that isn't there.
I solved (not really solving it, more like hiding it) by replacing every
odd line (or even, at your discretion) by a black one. Then it just looks
like you're sitting with your nose to the screen and you can see the lines.
the edge-of-the-shadow-lines you should be able to get rid of.
